Project Spotlight: Traditional Stairs in Toorak

Jun 23, 2020

Stairworks was proud to be invited to create this elegant traditional staircase for a new build in Toorak.

Architecturally designed, with bespoke features including handcrafted newel posts, this staircase was assembled in two stages and truly reflects the classic beauty of the home.

The base layer was installed first – simple Pine and MDF stringers, treads, landings and risers.

A couple of months later, our team returned for the icing on the cake – custom posts, balusters, handrails and tread edging.

The end result is a sophisticated yet genuinely liveable staircase perfect for the family home.

The bold contrast between the richly stained American Oak rails and tread edging and white painted posts and balusters draws in the eye, creating intimacy and warmth in the large stairwell.

The carpeted runner down the centre of the stairs takes inspiration from yesteryear to provide visual texture. Given the staircase is a high-traffic area of the home, the carpet also serves the welcome and practical purpose of deadening noise. It also provides excellent slip resistance.

Timeless, stylish and functional, these stairs epitomise what a traditional approach to design and practicality can bring to your home.
